Statement of Practice

Joseph received his B.A. in Sociology with a “Law & Society” emphasis from University of California, Davis. Before starting law school, he worked at Davis Summer House as a legal advocate for adults with developmental disabilities. Joseph received his J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law in 2014. During law school, Joseph graduated in the top 15% of his class and received four Witkin Awards for Academic Excellence in Contract Law, Criminal Law, Appellate Advocacy, and Sales Law as well as two CALI Excellence for The Future Awards in Legal Writing & Research and White Collar Crime. Joseph was also accepted into the 1st STEP Trial Advocacy program and Mock Trial program where he gained invaluable courtroom experience that led to him winning the Appellate Advocacy Competition in his second year.

Prior to joining Jacobson Markham, Joseph worked as an associate attorney handling contract and business disputes for a private firm in the San Francisco Bay Area. He gained vital litigation and case management experience, but moved on in 2016 looking for additional trial experience.

Since joining the firm in 2016, Joseph has been heavily involved in the firm’s trial work. He quickly ascended and was joint lead trial counsel in March 2018 in a significant wrongful death case.  His efforts led to a defense verdict. As soon as the firm’s next trials in 2018 and 2019, he took on a role as lead counsel and obtained defense verdicts in three consecutive employment cases. He has not slowed down. Even in this past year, he has taken three cases to verdict and obtained excellent results in each.

Joseph Urbanic’s practice focuses on civil litigation defense for personal injury, product liability, construction defect and employment matters. He is an equity partner and works closely with clients to try to resolve disputes as quickly and as painlessly as possible. In the instances where resolution is not possible, he provides a high level of skill and determination to get the best result possible for his clients at trial.
